Broadband North Yorkshire Conference

Livius Events are proud to be an official sponsor of the 'Broadband North Yorkshire' Conference at Ripon Racecourse on Saturday 19th February 2011

Dozens of community groups from across North Yorkshire, experts from the telecommunications industry and key figures from business and public sector will gather later this month for the Broadband North Yorkshire Conference.

The event is being organised by Julian Smith, Member of Parliament for Skipton and Ripon, and is supported by MPs from across North Yorkshire and York. The aim is to showcase the vision for getting the County connected to the internet, set-out by North Yorkshire County Council and NYnet.

it will outline plans for upgrading connections to make them superfast links, reducing the number of not-spots where internet access is not currently available and enabling North Yorkshire's economy to grow with more businesses seeing the area as a good location to invest.

Ripon Racecourse is the venue for the event which will take place on Saturday 19 February. Communities were able to apply for free tickets to the event to discuss their broadband issues and challenges. There was high demand for places and the event is now full.

Among the major companies attending are BT, Virgin, O2, Cable and Wireless, Avanti, The Post Office, DirectGov and Skipton Building Society. They will be joined by major organisations like the NHS, the BBC, National Parks, Councils, Charities and voluntary groups from across North Yorkshire and beyond.

Julian Smith, MP for Skipton and Ripon, said:

"This promises to be an exciting event that focuses on the way we can improve people's lives and North Yorkshire's economy by improving access to the internet.

"The Goverment sees broadband as important to the country's future success and this Conference will be a great opportunity for the industry, business, organisations and communities to come together to work out the best ways of turning the vision into a reality"
